6th Avenue NE and NE 145th Street Water Main Connection

A fire hydrant valve being assembled before it is placed in the trench for the 6th Avenue and 145th Street project
This project involved connecting the new 12” water main that was installed on 6th Avenue NE from NE 155th Street to about 120’ short of NE 145th Street, to the existing 12” water main on NE 145th Street, in order to complete the water main project on 6th Avenue NE.
Despite a relatively simple connection, this project took quite a bit of coordination with five separate agencies, including Washington State’s Department of Transportation (WSDOT), the City of Shoreline and their adjacent roundabout project, Sound Transit’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, Seattle Public Utilities (SPU)’s water utility, and Seattle City Light. In addition, all of the work along NE 145th Street had to be done at night and timed for completion prior to the paving for the roundabout project.
On April 7, 2026, WSB Excavating and Utilities was awarded the project and began work on April 27. The waterline portion and the paving on NE 145th Street was completed in May 2026.
The project is now awaiting final paving on 6th Avenue once Sound Transit completes their work at the intersection with the BRT project.
